It is hard to believe that moving from one Leicestershire town to another could make such a huge difference to a couple’s lifestyle, but David and Vanessa Healey’s experience certainly proves that it can.
Melton Mowbray is just over twenty-three miles north of Market Harborough, but this delightfully quaint market town is less than an hour from central London by train, and so close to David’s demanding job at Luton Airport, his daily commute is now dramatically reduced, giving him three more hours a day to spend at home.
David explains: “As Air Traffic Control Manager at Luton Airport being based in Melton Mowbray meant I was driving ninety-three miles each way every day. This was beginning to have a serious impact on my health and wellbeing and following a ‘ride in an ambulance’ in December 2020, Vanessa and I agreed that some lifestyle changes were urgently required. We started looking at downsizing – with our children away at university −and relocating so I could be nearer my work.”
But the couple also agreed that they would never, ever buy a new build home.
However, that was before they fell in love with the Gowan. A beautiful four-bedroom detached home at Wellington Place, surrounded by fabulous open spaces and overlooking the meandering Grand Union Canal on the very edge of Market Harborough. Weighing up the pros and cons, it was not long before they both realised how beneficial this move would be.
“We still needed four good sized bedrooms for when our son and daughter return from university, which the Gowan has and even though our previous house was 50% larger than our new home, because of the spacious, flow-through design and overall layout of the property, it really feels as if we have more space here,” David continues.
“And once we made the decision to move, the William Davis team were absolutely brilliant, so helpful, ensuring everything went through as smoothly and as stress free as possible. Plus, having a brand-new home meant we didn’t have anything to do when we moved in except enjoy it!
“Vanessa also decided the move to Market Harborough would mean a lifestyle change for her too, and having given up her job, she’s currently studying psychology with the Open University, which is something she’s always wanted to do.
“Moving here has made a huge difference, it’s so peaceful, we look onto the canal and there’s so much open space, Lizzy our dog just loves it. And it only takes twenty minutes to walk from home to Market Harborough, which we’re really looking forward to getting to know and enjoy properly.
“It’s true to say our entire quality of life has improved and we really do love living here.” David said.
