Georgina Dawson, husband Nick, together with their two children, moved in to their first new build property in 2018, a four-bedroom detached Seaton at Buttercup Fields, Shepshed. Inside it’s a perfect blend of practical and stylish family living. And as COVID lockdown tightened, their garden became an essential ‘somewhere else’ for the whole family to enjoy.
Not long after moving in, this very talented, uber creative – Georgina studied Fashion & Textiles at Loughborough University − started to put her stamp on their new home. Today, it’s the perfect blend of practical and spacious family living, combined with an eclectic range of features which enhance every corner of this stylish yet very comfortable home.
Her favourite base colour black has been enhanced with every hue of grey and splashes of warmth in a variety of shades, textures, ceramics and wood panelling. An old cupboard transformed into a kitchen island is genius, while exposed reclaimed bricks on an interior wall – which Georgina proudly pointed herself − gives a real sense of heritage. Her beloved Grandfather’s G-Plan cocktail cabinet adds a zip of glamour to the family’s comfy chillout space. However, lockdown meant the family was spending all their time at home and much of their living space became workspace; they needed somewhere to escape.
And so – during lockdown – the large, sunny garden took on a completely new identity, as Georgina took her talent for interior design outside to create their fabulous summerhouse. It’s hard to believe it arrived as a flatpack from Denmark, but Nick, clearly a very talented electrician, erected it over a bank holiday. Now fully fitted and furnished, it features a walk-in, sit up bar complete with optics; a spacious lounge area with corner rattan sofa and coffee table; a full-size hot tub/changing area and patio with an elegant dining table and chairs – restored only hours before being taken to the tip!
“The summerhouse has totally transformed how we live inside and out,” said Georgina, “We’re very lucky to have a large, south-facing garden but it needed some shade as full-on sun can be dangerous and we wanted to spend time in our lovely, spacious garden safely.
“Now it’s a wonderfully warm and welcoming space which we enjoy whatever the weather and makes us all feel as if we’ve been ‘somewhere different’.” Georgina explained.
So, any new projects on the go?
“We’re extending the patio outside the kitchen,” says Georgina. “I’m planning a pergola to grow wisteria, which I think will add a wonderful, soothing dimension to our outdoor space.”
