School children help Hedgehogs

Tuesday 21st November 2023

A group of schoolchildren have taken part in a special project to protect local wildlife. They helped to install hedgehog homes at a new housing development in a Leicestershire village.

Pupils at Burton on the Wolds Primary School visited William Davis Homes’ Honeysuckle Rise development, as part of their work to learn more about the local environment.

During the visit, the children helped to install hedgehog nests which will give the animals shelter. The pupils signed their names on the lids of the nests, alongside the name of their school.

The headteacher of the primary school, Claire Wilson, said the visit was a great experience for the children to learn more about local wildlife and to see a construction site.

“The pupils really enjoyed their visit to Honeysuckle Rise to help William Davis Homes install the hedgehog homes in different parts of the development,” said Mrs Wilson. “They all learned a lot and asked interesting questions.”

The children were shown around part of the development by William Davis Homes health and safety advisor Diane Gibson and the site manager, Dean Gladdin.

Mr Gladdin said: “We were delighted to welcome the youngsters to Honeysuckle Rise and help them learn about how we can all help wildlife while also providing much needed new housing.”
