It’s been a little while since we all enjoyed a spring and summer of “normality” full of family days out, so we thought we would take a quick look at some of the great places you can visit in the Midlands.
‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ often referred to as the jewel of the West Midlands. The 26 square miles of beautiful scenery and wildlife offers plenty of walking, cycling and horse-riding trails for the whole family to enjoy. Hop in the car and you’ll find it just east of the M6, close to junctions 12 and 13.
A popular beauty spot in a valley in the Peak District known for its stepping stones across the River Dove. Couples and families of all ages can enjoy paddling in the river or walking around the limestone ravines. Finish the day with an ice cream from the shop at the car park.

National Space Centre
A fun and educational day out in Leicester that’s great for kids and adults alike. There are six galleries to explore, including space suits, rockets, satellites and meteorites, all inside the UK’s largest domed planetarium. Although closed due to the pandemic, if all goes well it should reopen its doors after May 17th in time for half term.
A National Trust Grade I listed country house in Derbyshire with plenty of beautiful grounds to explore including a walled garden, flower garden and an ancient deer park. It has become increasingly popular during the pandemic so it’s worth booking your tickets before you go.
A reservoir in Derbyshire offering a variety of things to do including a scenic walk or cycle around the reservoir, or water sports if you’re feeling more adventurous. There’s an on-site café offering refreshments or there are plenty of picnic spots if you prefer to bring your own.
Elveston Castle Country Park
A beautiful stately home in Derbyshire that’s surrounded by acres of parkland. With a sculpture trail, children’s play area, lake, Local Nature Reserve plus paths, bridleways and a café to explore, there’s plenty to see and do.
Although this iconic racing circuit has events on throughout the season, headline events include the British Superbike Championship race weekend and the World Superbike Championship race weekend. You can either camp for the weekend or buy a day ticket for the main race day on Sunday.
The popular outdoor adventure attraction known for its tree top ropes and forest segway safaris. It can be found at locations around the UK including Coventry, which boasts a Tarzan Swing, 200 metre dual zip wires and 500 acres of Coombe Country Park with its stunning gardens, woodland and lake.
A bit further afield in Staffordshire but well worth the trip if theme park rides are just the thing your family enjoys. There are plenty of ride options suitable for all ages and you can book a short stay or go for a fun day out.
