THINKING ABOUT ALL THE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO STYLE YOUR NEW HOME? YOU’LL FIND LOTS OF STYLISH (AND SURPRISING) WAYS TO CREATE THE PERFECT LIVING SPACE.
1. BLUE IS THE NEW GREY
Yep, we said it. We never thought it would happen but our love affair with grey has been replaced by blue! And if you don't believe us, believe Pantone. Not to boast, but we had a sneaky suspicion that the Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 was going to be blue. It felt like it was time and our suspicions were right as Pantone announced their 2020 colour – called Classic Blue. It’s exactly how it sounds: clean, elegant and uplifting. And better still, it’s a really easy colour to incorporate into your home.
2. TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE
2020 trends aren't all about colour, more and more we’re seeing texture being used to add interest to rooms. A look we love involves layering up different textures in the same, or very similar colours. It's perfect if you’re big on neutrals and need to find different ways to decorate your rooms without using too many colours. In a living room, cushions and blankets are an obvious way to do. In other rooms, you can try bringing in textures with plants (dried flowers are everywhere going into 2020) prints and well-curated knick-knacks.
3. CREATING MORE SOCIABLE SPACES
Staying in has become the new going out and this is being reflected in our homes. We’re increasingly looking to bars, restaurants and hotels for interior inspiration to create a relaxed, smart bar-like feel at home. Think outrooms in the garden and bar carts, cocktail chairs and plenty of neon signs indoors.
4. ANIMAL PRINTS
Turns out our favourite animal prints in fashion are set to be game-changers in the home. But how do you incorporate a leopard print throw or a zebra print rug in way that’s stylish and not too showy? Start small, adding accents in the form of soft furnishings and a few, small accessories. Then if you love the look and feel, you can go further with rugs and curtains.
Apparently velvet going to be huge in 2020 and will reign strong throughout the next few seasons, especially when it comes to furnishings. From statement pieces like a luxurious velvet sofa to velvet cushions and even velvet wallpaper, you have lots of choice whether you fancy dipping your toe in or going all out. And the good news is, if you love velvet but have so far abstained because of the practicalities of dogs and children, there are an increasing range of life-proof velvets that are resistant to spills and stains.
