TOP 5 TIPS FOR ADDING STATEMENT LIGHTING TO YOUR HOME BY OUR SHOW HOME DESIGN PARTNER, EDWARD THOMAS INTERIORS

Modern, industrial, bohemian or vintage – statement lighting can transform a room and give your home the wow factor. But with so much choice available, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of your original vision and style. To help you navigate upcoming trends and bring your rooms to life, we’ve shared our top tips for adding statement lighting to your home.

Tip 1: Be space smart
Statement lighting is usually characterised by unusual or high impact designs, and while bold is beautiful, more often than not, it’s also pretty big. To help you maximise your space, try positioning the light fitting over furniture. It’s a great opportunity to make a statement without compromising on head room.

Tip 2: Walls work too
Big and beautiful ceiling lights and eye-catching floor lamps tend to come to mind first when we’re shopping around for statement lighting, but they’re not the only options. Wall lamps are a fun and practical alternative for any room and there are some really wonderful designs out there.

Tip 3: Say it with shade
The days of purely white or cream lampshades are over, because when it comes to statement lighting, anything goes. Patterned or coloured shades can be used to pick out an accent colour. They are also a great way to update your room and create a stunning centrepiece without replacing the whole light fitting.

Tip 4: Don’t forget about the lighting
It’s sounds obvious, but when you start your journey into choosing the perfect lighting it can be easy to get carried away with the style and altogether forget about its functionality. All light fitments are not made equal, so whether you want it light and bright or warm and cosy, just make sure you choose a fitting that emits enough light for the room and what you need it for.

Tip 5: Get the height right
There’s nowhere more important to choose the correct height for your light than in a walkway. Choosing designs that are flush or semi flush are a safe bet and we suggest a maximum drop of 38cm if you want to walk around your home comfortably without ducking.
